DescriptionThis adaptation of Ibsen's An Enemy of the People is inspired by the real environmental disaster concerning the Italian city of Taranto. Even though there's no actual reference to the city of Taranto, the original event works as a sort of archetype for many environmental tragedies that have been taking place in Italy every day. The performance features only four characters; furthermore the figure of Dr. Stockmann is played by a woman. The original lines about the pollution of the spa baths are replaced by the doctors' reports about the toxic substances produced by Taranto's steel factories (however, no explict reference are made).
