Event To kouklospito (A Doll’s House / Το κουκλόσπιτο)

DescriptionA work from 1879 but still relevant at any time, A Doll's House , which exploded like a bomb in its time, boldly deals with – among other things – the tragic hypocrisy that can permeate a marriage, false ideals, the consequences of frivolity (even of the innocent), our vital lies, the Truth which, as Oscar Wilde has said, "is seldom pure and never simple"... Nora and Helmer's seemingly perfect marriage falls apart when the revelation of a lie will remove all certainty, reveal the complete lack of communication between them, and reveal the true dimensions of their relationship, leading to the end of their innocence. Nora becomes painfully aware that good and loving motives are not enough to find understanding neither from the Law, nor from her husband. Criminally hellish acts, brutal extortion, fears, agonies, suicidal thoughts, alternate with love, hope, flirtation, joy, the ideals of the exemplary family, social advancement and financial prosperity – all this until the final showdown with the Truth, which will sweep everything without pity for either of the two protagonists. It is this Truth that will lead Nora to the urgent formulation of Hamlet's quest for the Ego. It is this Truth that finds it difficult to transmit and touch the Other – even more so today, in the age of extreme interconnectedness… The work that has been considered a feminist manifesto for a long time is much more than that, since the heroes that Ibsen created about a century and a half ago, seem to have lost not a drop of their vitality and revolutionary estrus, while their passions continue to disturb the today's viewers, since we recognize something of ourselves in them.
