| Description | As the title suggests, the protagonist of Ibsen's drama is first and foremost a house: the home of a family that boasts a centuries-old genealogy of important men – of the church, politicians, rulers – who lived according to the values of tradition and in the certainty of being right. With its park, stained glass windows, large portraits of ancestors, trinkets, flowers, the house exudes authority and prestige, it is the symbol of a comfortable, industrious, rigorous, austere life, of undoubted morality.
