Nora Helmer |
| Description | Nora Helmer, the latest creation from Teatro Aberto, is a performance that combines cinema and theater – precisely in that order – which contrasts the Past and the Future of the protagonist. João Lourenço and Vera San Payo de Lemos come together to create a dialogue between A Doll’s House (1879) by Henrik Ibsen – a piece of bourgeois drama, a precursor to Modern Theater – and A Doll’s House, Part 2 (2017) by Lucas Hnath – a 'response play' that picks up the dramatic action 15 years later and formalizes a resolution for the characters.
The proposed staging is audacious: the two plays are presented in diptych, within 1 hour and 50 minutes. The performance successfully recapitulates the Past, condensing the Ibsenian play into a black-and-white film (set in the 1950s), while bringing the Future to the forefront, by eliminating the screen and continuing the representation on stage of Hnath's text by the actors, Carolina Picoito Pinto (Emma), Cleia Almeida (Nora), Patrícia André (Ana Maria), and Renato Godinho (Torvald), accompanied by the music of Ernesto Rodrigues. |
