Description | In the opening minutes of the fifth act of "An Enemy of the People," Thomas Stockmann tells his wife, "I will keep these stones as a relic. Ejlif and Morten will always have them before their eyes, and when they grow up, they will inherit them." He is referring to the stones that his neighbors have thrown at his house. "They Will Inherit the Stones" is a micro-sequel to Henrik Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People." The action takes place in the seaside resort town of Tomas Stockmann, fifteen years after he had to leave it. The protagonist, on this occasion, will be his son Morten, who has become a prestigious doctor, who returns to the village to settle pending scores. |
