Enta Gampler (Hedda Gabler / Έντα Γκάμπλερ) |
Description | Following its great success last season, Henrik Ibsen's emblematic "Hedda Gabler" returns for a second year at Theatre T, translated and directed by Glykeria Kalaitzi. Noted for her modern and uncluttered view of the most enigmatic heroine in world drama, the production focuses on the unfulfilled desire of an emancipated woman to self-determine within a patriarchal society.
After the death of her strict and conservative father, Hedda Gabler is free to live her life as she wishes. Therefore, she chooses the man she will marry herself, a young scientist with good economic and social prospects. However, by entering a loveless marriage, she quickly realizes the emptiness of conventional marital relations and the limitations of her own freedoms within the marriage. Trapped in a life she despises but cannot change, Hedda Gabler decides to "depart" from the male-dominated and proper world, rebelling against the suffocating embrace of marriage and family that restricts female freedom. |
