DescriptionThe play portrays the emotional collapse of a family that maintains itself through delusions symbolized by a wounded wild duck they keep in their attic. The duck is cared for by the granddaughter Hedvig and grandfather Ekdal. The wild duck is a tragic symbol of vital deception. Even the slightest hint of truth reveals their emotional dissolution and shatters their illusory world. The drama unfolds in the home of a failed photographer named Hjalmar Ekdal, who seems to lead a happy life, but this is merely a veneer created by delusions and self-deception. Everything collapses when an idealist named Gregers Werle enters and reveals the truth, annihilating them in the process. Gina, Hjalmar's wife, had been in love with his father, Old Werle. It's proven that their daughter Hedvig is not Hjalmar's child, leading to their devastation. Upon learning this truth, young Hedvig commits suicide.
