Al-ashbah (Ghost / الاشباح) |
Description | Played four Performances in Baghdad and three performances in Amman/Jordan in a theatre festival.
In the staging of Gengangere, the play is taken out of the realistic form Ibsen has given it, and instead produced symbolically. The scenography is a large tree in the middle of a large, empty theater stage. All the action takes place around this tree. The tree is a symbol of the roots of society.
In the beginning, Mrs. Alving tries to uproot the tree from the ground. But, even with the help of her son, she can't do it. Ibsen wanted to describe a different woman than Nora – one who accepts the man's will. Where Nora was strong and made her own choices without caring about what society demanded of her, Mrs Alving is weak and passive, she is a woman who does not make her own choices. |
